- Encourage reflection about the essential roles and purpose of urban animal management

- Promote training, career paths and qualification for Animal Management Officers (AMOs) within an accredited national competency framework;
- Add to a body of readily accessible quality literature on this subject
- Share knowledge and experience to build a collegiate sense of common purpose and mutual assistance in this industry
- Help underscore the significant occupational health and safety issues associated with animal management
- Draw together streams of consensus for nation uniformity on important matters pertaining to urban animal management policy and practice
- Provide a focus for the initial and continuing education of AMOs
- Recognise excellence in animal management service
The Institute's annual urban animal management conference is structured along the following (General) outline:
- A lecture program made up of a main body of lectures (about 70%) on core animal control and regulation business, together with a supplementary content of supporting material that includes :–
- Relevant asociated animal welfare interactions
- Relevant associated animal behaviour components
- Relevant associated sociological aspects
- Relevant associated business management themes
- A social program that assists networking between delegates
- Workshop sessions that encourage the active participation of delegates in formulating Institute direction and policy
- Awards for recognition of excellence in local government animal management activities.
