I am a recovering alcoholic.  I drank 24 years & have been sober a year now.  Doctors have prescribed naltrexone to me in the past &, honestly, the disease of alcoholism is but a symptom of underlying causes & conditions.  Until a person is ready to deal with themselves there is not simple magic pill you can take to make you able to deal with reality.  I understand that my alcoholism is because my liver does not metabolize alcohol properly.  Maybe scientists ought to look into how the liver metabolizes alcohol instead of giving alcoholics dangerous drugs that they have no idea how they are acting in the brain.

  13. What if there is no physical craving involved, but an inability to deal with stress triggers? I don't remember ever "craving" alcohol, but when i have to deal with some stressful event or memories, i reach for the bottle. Is there any cure for that?
